Facilitated by expert Yolŋu and Balanda (non-Indigenous) cross-cultural facilitators, our highly interactive workshops will support your team to develop practical skills for effective engagement with Yolŋu people and communities.
Our full workshop package includes delivery of 10 modules (see below); a preparatory discussion with our team to understand your organisation’s needs and how we can incorporate them in our workshop delivery; and 6 months’ access to our self-paced eLearn program for each participant.
The following elements of our workshops can be tailored
Content
For example, if your organisation provides health services, we can adapt our Yolŋu Matha and Plain English modules to include examples and terms that might be useful in a healthcare setting. If your organisation is preparing for consultation and engagement with Yolŋu communities, we can prioritise focus on Yolŋu approaches to decision-making and agreement. We can also frame conversation topics throughout the modules around specific issues you are interested in discussing.
Session length
10 modules require approximately 12 hours. Subject to facilitator availability, these can be delivered through sessions ranging from 3-6 hours (plus breaks) to suit your needs.
We also offer a 5-module tailored workshop package, over 6-7 hours. Content and session length can be tailored for these, too. (Please note only our full workshop satisfies Northern Territory Government training requirements for staff working with Yolŋu or on Yolŋu Country.)
In 2026 we will be offering open CCT workshops. These will be offered in both Nhulunbuy and Darwin.
These sessions are ideal for organisations with only a few staff or individuals working in the Northeast Arnhem region who would benefit from our training but do not require a fully tailored, organisation-specific workshop.
Across two consecutive days, participants engage in 10 core modules designed to build practical skills and deepen understanding.
The next scheduled Open Workshops will be held on:
If you are interesting in participating in any of these workshops, please contact us at [email protected]

Payment of the total workshop fee must be received no later than 2 weeks prior to the first scheduled workshop session. We are happy to deliver workshops for staff of 2 or more organisations, provided those organisations advise ARDS at least 6 weeks in advance of the workshop date what proportion of the total workshop fee should be invoiced to each organisation.
ARDS requires at least 5 business days’ notice of a cancellation prior to a scheduled workshop session. Where organisations notify of a cancellation:
From time to time, cultural considerations might mean it is respectful and appropriate for ARDS to cancel a scheduled workshop session. Where this occurs:
For organisations in Nhulunbuy and Darwin, our facilitators will come to your organisation or a space you identify for training delivery. If you are unable to provide a training space, please speak to us about options available.
We can arrange delivery in remote communities at an additional cost.
Face-to-face learning is our recommended format for building cultural competency skills. However, if your organisation requires virtual delivery, please talk to us about options for this.
