Mangkuldalkuj Seasons book in Iwaidja

It was so wonderful to visit Minjilang, Croker Island, on February 22-26. This trip was part of the Language and Culture Project ARDS has been working on with the community. We launched the very beautiful Mangkuldalkuj Seasons book in Iwaidja, written and illustrated by many community members. It was great to be able to deliver the book to the artists and storytellers, who hadn’t yet seen the finished product. We know Aung Si and Janos Kerekes, who did lots of work over the past few years on this project, would have loved to be there for our celebration BBQ.

Thanks to more funding from the Federal Government’s Indigenous Languages and Arts Program, ARDS will visit Minjilang a few more times in the next couple of months. We will talk about ideas for ongoing language project there, to see if there’s other ways we can help support Iwaidja and the other languages spoken at Minjilang. Thanks to everyone who shared your ideas and plans with us so far!
