HISTORY

East Arnhem Live started out as a free online concert series bringing the culture, history and beauty of East Arnhem Land to audiences across the world during the COVID-19 lockdown of early 2020. Viewers had a unique opportunity to visit East Arnhem Land from the comfort of their own homes during an unprecedented time of global disruption and uncertainty.

Yolŋu, the traditional owners of East Arnhem Land, practise the longest continuing traditional culture in the world. At the centre of this culture is song, dance and connection to country. Over nine weeks, Yolŋu artists shared their music and culture from spectacular locations in East Arnhem Land with audiences from across the world.

The East Arnhem Live online concert series was presented by Yolŋu Radio and proudly supported by Rirratjingu Aboriginal Corporation and Developing East Arnhem Limited. Through East Arnhem Live, local artists were employed to support them while gigs are cancelled and tourists were unable to visit us. It also supported maintaining and sharing culture during an unprecedented time.
