About the program
Over the past two years, ARDS developed a comprehensive resource pack – including a poster and series of radio plays – exploring the concept of ‘the cycle of violence’ from a Yolŋu (Yolngu) perspective.
In order to create relevant and culturally appropriate resources, our cross-cultural facilitators and language consultants facilitated conversations about family violence with a broad representation of Yolŋu community members.
The resources were introduced to a large number of organisations in northeast Arnhem Land working in the family violence realm, and the radio programs are being broadcast on Yolŋu Radio.
Subsequently, ARDS has been engaged to consult leaders from all 15 bäpurru (clan groups) in Galiwin’ku, to document the views of Galiwin’ku residents about family violence. The views will be collated into a Community Statement, expressing Yolŋu beliefs about the causes and solutions to family violence. The statement is to be publicly launched in late May 2016.
