Bala Yalaŋbaraḻi

Bala Yalaŋbarali is the Dhaŋu language edition of the story written by Rärriwuy Garramu Marika and illustrated by Merrkiyawuy Ganambarr-Stubbs. Originally written in Dhaŋu and later translated into English as On the Way to Yalaŋbara.

The book tells of a family’s journey to the sacred homeland of Yalaŋbara.

Yalaŋbara is a special place. It is a place of healing that calms the soul. Anyone, whether Yolŋu or Balanda, can feel the spirit of that country. There is white sand, turquoise water, and plenty to eat.

But what happens when the car gets bogged on the way there? Is it time to get hot and cross, or is it time to remember… and dream?
