Welcome to country - Outback Spirit
Outback Spirit has begun its season with a bang! Every second day we have 22 guests coming on the Outback Spirit Tour through Arnhem Land. The first port of call is our wonderful and beautiful Welcome to Country Ceremony with Galpu Clan Leader Djalu Gurruwiwi and his family members. One Clan Leader, two songmen, one yidaki player, and six male and female dancers clad in rainbow skirts, maroon nargas, and white feathers, singing and dancing the ancient song lines, captivating the tourists attention and introducing them to a culture that is steeped in beauty, connection and spirituality.
Following the Welcome to Country Ceremony, we make our way through the beautiful Buku Larrnguy Art Centre, stopping for lunch at Shady Beach in Yirrkala. Here we are met with a warm welcome by the beautiful Gumatj clan leaders and healing women elders of North East Arnhem Land with their granddaughters, presenting their traditional healing ways and their Bucharinganing (Bush Medicine Healing leaves), along with healing and massages to the Outback Spirit Guest.
These healing presentations of Yolngu Bush medicine are going really well, with much laughter and connection and interest taking place between the Yolngu women and the balanda's (white people) who've travelled a long way to meet them.
Every two days ARDS and Outback Spirit bring good financial reward to 15 Yolngu performers and healers, generating a good and positive exchange that is benefiting many local Yolngu, as well as leaving the Outback Spirit guest absolutely taken aback and touched by the beauty and warmth of the Yolngu people and their fascinating spiritually connected culture.
A beautiful exchange and positive experience never to be forgotten.
