ARDS’ recent radio series about pokies and gambling has been named ‘Best Radio Production’ at the 2017 Indigenous Remote Communications Association (IRCA) Awards.

Nhaliy dhu Yolŋuy yutjuwaḻa’kum mari beŋur pokiesŋur?(‘Finding a pathway to reduce harms caused by pokies’), a 12 part radio series recorded in Yolŋu Matha, was awarded at the 19th Remote Indigenous Media Festival in Irrunytju (Wingellina).

The judge’s praised the series’ “innovative approach to narrative techniques and the creation of new terms in Yolŋu Matha to describe contemporary phenomena”.

All 12 episodes of the series are available for download or streaming at https://soundcloud.com/ards-2/sets/pokies-story.

ARDS also won an IRCA award for ‘Best Outside Broadcast’, for our live broadcast of the 2017 Garma Festival on Yolŋu Radio.

‘Nhaliy dhu Yolŋuy yutjuwaḻa’kum mari beŋur pokiesŋur?’ was sponsored by the Northern Territory Government’s Community Benefit Fund. We thank the donor and IRCA for their support.
