Our new Ministers
The appointment of Hon Ken Wyatt AM, MP, as the Minister for Indigenous Australians is an historic moment. The first Indigenous Australian to be Minister for Indigenous Australians, Ken is a Noongar man from Bunbury in southwestern Western Australia who has worked in Indigenous health and education.
Another first is the appointment of Linda Burney MP as the shadow Minister for Indigenous Australians. Linda, a Wiradjuri woman from southwestern New South Wales, is the first Indigenous woman elected to the Australian House of Representatives and the first Indigenous woman appointed as the shadow Minister for Indigenous Australians.
The new minister for Communications, Cyber Safety and the Arts (which manages funding for Indigenous languages) is Hon Paul Fletcher MP, previously a senior executive with Optus and consultant in the communications industry.
We are looking to meet with the new ministers soon to discuss future opportunities for ARDS.
