International Women's Day 2019

International Women's Day 2019

It was an absolutely successful day on the 8th March, International Womens day at ARDS/ Yolngu Radio. Over 30 women attended the event from Miwatj Health Workers, to Anglicare to the General Manager of Rio Tinto, and to the women community members of Nhulunbuy.

Led by ARDS Project Manager Ali Azzopardi, and her team of Yolngu Radio Staff and Workforce Development Trainees, Shani Martin, Michael Hunter, and Zowie Bromot this was a very proud and successful event for ARDS/ Yolngu Radio. We held a live Interview with Senior Gumatj Elder and Eunice Djerrknu Marika, who is well practiced in traditional healing and ceremony. The interview was held in front of a women's only audience, and included a powerful, insightful and connecting Q&A Session amongst women of the Nhulunbuy community, Balanda and Yolngu connected together.

The session was recorded predominantly by our female Yolngu Radio producers and will be broadcast over Yolngu Radio in the near future. It was a great day of women gathering together to share messages of strength and support for all women in the Miwatj Community of North East Arnhem Land.

HAPPY INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY!

Thank you to Territory Families for making this event possible.
