ARDS AWARDED ADMINISTRATORS MEDAL FOR PRIMARY HEALTH CARE 2010
Aboriginal Resource and Development Resources ( ARDS) has been awarded the prestigious Administrator’s Medal for Primary Health Care.
His Honour Mr Tom Pauling AO QC presented the medal last Friday at Government House in Darwin recognising the contribution made by the ARDS Health Education and Promotion Team to providing and improving primary health care services in the NT.
The award recognised the significant achievements of the team in the past 12 months including:
- Publication of a Yolŋu Matha-English anatomy dictionary online, the first dictionary of its kind between English and an Australian Indigenous language.
- Broadcast of over 40 audio education programs on sexual health and chronic diseases for broadcast Yolŋu Radio.
- Publication of The Rheumatic Heart Disease Story Guide, a training resource for health staff working with rheumatic heart disease patients and their families.
- Educational DVDs “Antibiotics-puy Dhäwu” ( Antibiotics story), and “Circulation and our heart” in Yolŋu Matha with English subtitles.
- “Foundations in Health Literacy DVD”, a training resource for health education and promotion staff.
- Face-to-face whole of community education on sexual health and chronic diseases.
ARDS Chairman Maratja Dhamarrandji accepted the award with Health Educator Alice Mitchell, and expressed that he was proud and thankful for the work of the team and the discoveries they have made about how to deliver health information to Yolŋu people.
